i found this really wonderful website full of quirky, vintage, strange, whimsical, etc etc illustrations from all over the world, some in watercolour, some in black-and-white (or cream, as the pages have yellowed in time), some in stranger mediums like the airbrush (i never knew they had airbrushes back in 1930!), but they’re mostly a group of pictures from artists ranging from the well-known (van gogh) to the relatively arcane (dutch children’s picture books illustrators). there’s no real way to describe this website, but maybe if i could describe it in one word it would be “intimate”, as if you’re taking a peek into a book from a shelf of a person from the past. i love the ones of animals and plants! nobody really draws that anymore, which i think they should, at the rate all of those animals are becoming extinct. and also i love the details on the mushroom illustrations!! i never knew there were so many! (and they all somehow look delicious, even though they’re mostly poisonous. idk maybe that’s just me being ravenous at 4 in the morning) here are some examples that i liked a lot:

watercolour illustration of france

old but cool looking illustration of a town from the 15th century! (that’s jerusalem i believe) the blog calls it “travel literature”, how refined!
an artist in the 1930 imagines what life would be like in 2030, using airbrushes. love how art deco this is! and i don’t mean the modern type illustrators try to replicate with using computer software
check it out here!

i wanted to type something else, but i changed my mind because i didn’t know how to go about expressing myself. and i don’t know what to say. see i just deleted the paragraph i typed. this is so frustrating. this is the first time in my life that words have failed me? hm. i shall sleep on this and hope it gets better tomorrow.

haha this is gonna be a post loaded with blurry and unclear pictures taken with my lousy kodak 7.1 megapix cam, phone cam and a shaky hand so bear with the unprofessional pictures! yes i’m not pro enough to lug around those big back bulky cameras (i don’t even know what it’s called lol) which seem so hip recently. so many people have got them.
PRE-PROM MASK HUNTING:
we were cheated!! 15 bucks to rent a lousy mask which we didn’t even use in the end. that’s just… nevertheless pams and i had fun with the costumes in the rental shop!
pam: come closer sonny, granny can’t see ya
channelling my inner john lennon
after that got a clutch/bag what was pretty similar to my dress! was quite lucky. on the day itself the schduele was super duper rush! did hair and makeup at isetan scotts with barely time to spare (cos we were supposed to practice the performance item) so quickly rushed down to the class’s rented service apartment and put on dress and we were roaring and ready to go!
AT MARRIOTT:

ze sree musketeers
the only time my fringe managed to stay nice and flat the whole night :(
HAHA I LIKE THIS PIC
me and mr evans! for being such a paitent ct.
guitar god vs amazonian woman (sounds like a bad marvel comic book name)
after it ended, pics galore.
class photo!
kev said high heels can’t possibly be that bad to stand in! well he put it on for 10 secs before he changed back.
kwong, ham, guang, danson, shoban, tony, eddy, pam and i walked back to the service apartment. dunno how i did it but i managed to walk all the way from marriott to centerpoint in 3 inch heels we took pis along the way, with kwong as the artistic stylist.
strike a pose
group shottt
LOL. seeing rain momentarily made me forget the pain in my toes
fail shot at a suave photo. hahaha

FINALLYYYYYYYYYYYYY after what seemed like ages we reached the place!
went to supperclub for a bit with kevlim, vik, jun, cher, steph and the bridge gang. lol couldn’t remember much, just that i couldn’t see anything cos the fog machine kept spraying the crowd when they were dancing. and the place was so tiny! oh and my ears still hurt. blehh. must’ve got something to do with my newly pierced ears, like they’re still throbbing.
eventually i met darli, who was sitting prim and proper by the side with valencia and ginni and i asked her why she wasn’t dancing, and she replied “because i want to laugh at people”
…LOL
eventually at 2ish 3 left and went to get kwong/pam’s cake for their surprise. orchard at 2am is really deserted and quiet. haha and there there was this episode with the drunk indian and angmoh. tsk.
cher lounging around as we waited for the receptionist to come back with the cake.
anyway the thing about the celebration was that kev thought we were celebrating pam’s birthday, and pam the other way round! so in the end we surprised both of them! got pam fruit juicer and kwong a whole box of stuffs. sing song, ate cake. then i went to shower but in the meanwhile the class watched silence of the lambs on star movies. it’s not even scary lor, dunno why ming always seem so scared when we talk about this movie. then after that we played guang’s retarded drinking game (with fruit juice and coke), which was quite funny. like there are rules that you must abide by, and the forfeit is drinking the drinks, and like you can’t got to the toilet. damn sadistic lor! there were rules such as “cannot say the word ‘I’”, “cannot point at others”, “cannot ask questions” etc etc. eventually the game progressed to a point were everybody was talking like r2d2 and were afraid to move around too much for fear of breaking a rule of the game. LOL
then morning came and….
most people fell asleep!
the sky at 8 ish am from my spot on the sofa/chair in the living room. helped make pancakes and (failed) eggs for breakfast

lounged around the rooftop pool watching some of the guys swim. eventually fell asleep for a long while. it was so nice with the warm cushioned deck chairs and shade from the umbrella. bad part was when guang decide to flick water at the chairs when i was in lala-land. :(
cleaning up. and we were signing darli’s long overdue birthday present.
going homeeeeee. later ate with class at taka.
then i met ming and kk while lugging all my stuff cos i haven’t seen them in damn long! watched fantastic mr fox but i guess it wasn’t so fantastic cos i fell asleep in the middle of the movie. or it could be due to a combination of too little sleep and too much walking/jumping around from last night. but the animation was damn cute though, like whimsical and nostalic. somehow it reminds me of my childhood. anw then walked a bit looking at prom dresses for ming and kk, and finally came home. almost died on the mrt. even my flats gave me blisters, plus my calves were aching like just ran 2.4 ten times ontinuously! can’t imagine what professional catwalk model’ll have to go through on a daily basis. then arrived home and cleaned up and here i am now!
hmm shall upload pics on fb tomorrow i guess. kinda sleepy now.
i’m trying not to feel so bloody irritated. fine, stuff happens, i can accept that.
the me three years ago would’ve gone into a bad case of verbal diarrhea. last year i might’ve written a lengthy and irritatingly ambiguous rant. but currently all i feel is disappointment. and annoyance. mostly annoyance.
at least there’s a silver lining to all of this: it’s the man-up-there’s sign to me that i should stop being so slack and unfocused.
oh well. no biggie. noooooooo biggie.
anyway this kinda cheers me up anyhow. it’s funny and it’s such a fml worthy-moment:

fuggersnaps. >:(

yesterday i went to watch dance venia! it was pretty dumb cos in the morning i realised that i had forgotten my ticket at home so i had to go all the way back to take it. but the foa was pretty awesome :D i liked the contemp piece, the syf dance, JAIHO and the broadway piece the best. i also thought cpac’s chinese drums item was cool (whoohoo laoshi!) tried to take some pics from my lousy handphone camera but well. it is only 2 megapixels and it’s bad in dim lighting but that’s good enough for me!
the taiwan ethnic dance-inspired piece by the y5s. during the middle of the dance, they did this clam-shell move(you know the move in hip hop music videos where some chick puts her arms behind her neck and pumps her elbows inward, much like an oyster) which made daryl yam exclaim “taiwan ethinc people got dance move liddat meh?!” LOL
macho half-naked guys in skirts and yakuza tattoos drumming
the syf piece! it was inspired by mongolia (not sure about that one) LOL the effect of the gold tights were slightly distracting but other than that it was awesome
this was one of the “highlights” of the show. this amazonian dance. their faces are in shadow… hmm, perhaps a symbolic manifestation of their internal monolouges? i.e. “wtf am i doing in leopard-print skirts and knee-length flesh-coloured tights”
on a non-dance related note: HEIGHT GRADIENT (i’m the shortest and i’m 170cm). LOOK AT DARLI! her heels were at least 7-inches tall. when i walked up to her to say hi i gave her a pat on the shoulder and she started wobbling around. btw shoban is tiptoeing (i think)
After that a bunch of us bummed around at the astro turf, then pam’s mom gave me a ride home! we talked about the astroham moment LOL that was pretty classic
