it’s 1.34 am
i’m alone by myself in the living room
and all i can hear is the the bubbling of the fish tank
the whirr of air-conditioning from under the neighbours’ windows
the cpu buzzing away
the laguid tick-tock of the clock
people returning from where ever they were, car doors slamming downstairs
and the occassional person in his car speeding along the road outside
it’s times like this, all these combination of sounds that make me think the city is sleeping, like a giant in slumber. it’s funny how in other places, like while vacationing in hk or staying at my aunt’s place in shanghai, the traffic never seems to stop in the middle of the night, and people are honking away randomly like nobody’s business. it’s barely 2 and everybody’s all sleeping! even the neighbour who screams at her children late at night sleeps at 11, haha.
anyway and it’s the first time in a while i’m not in bed by 1. heh. that’s cos was trying to finish an essay! my shoulders feel cramped and sore from being hunched over fore the past 2 hours from doing them on the comp. :( i needs a massage guys, i feel like the hunchback of notre dam with a right big lump on my shoulders now.
hmm i saw the paranormal activity trailer on youtube! well, technically speaking i saw it but didn’t watch it because i didn’t dare to, LOL. if not i wouldn’t be sitting here calmly typing this – i’d probably be hiding under my covers in bed and listening to the radio to block out the sounds of the room creaking and all that jazz, which seem more frightening when you’re in that heightened state of paranoia for some reason. heh. gosh i hate the after effects of getting spooked out. that’s why i stick to watching b-grade, retrotastic b-grade horror films: because their “horror” is a bunch of zombies that look like they came from the set of Thriller, moaning ‘brains!’ and staggering around town, and ain’t no scary dead girl coming out of a tv screen or a stupid well, haha. and above all b-grade horror films are super funny, especially when the protagonists are all scared shitless and running away from zombies and you’re laughing your ass off at the one dressed like a character from Dynasty circa 1980, complete with ugly pearl necklace, shoulder pads and shoes to match. (not that i watch Dynasty though, soz for the stereotype) with that said i caught a bit of return of the dead on max before i was chased back to my room and i laughed more than i was scared (which was none). wish i could’ve finished watching it though, i wonder what happened to all those zombies…
right better go sleep now, toodles!

ahh… what a blast to the past. i love disney movies :D well i’m not afraid to say it, even though some might deem it childish, but i think when you’re all grown up and you revisit these childhood classics, they take on a whole new meaning. i know this is stupid, but when i was a kid i totally had a crush on robin hood… who technically was an anthropomorphic fox. and i hated maid marian because she was his gf. haha! oh man typing all of this really makes me wonder what was going on in my head when i was young. but now rewatching the movie it seems to me to be a great good-truimphs-over-evil, true-love-exists-no-matter-what type of love story. which also happens to be insanely saccharine sweet… which is exactly the way i like it!
well, disney just doesn’t make movies like that anymore y’know? like movies with that tinge of old hollywood glamour of the 40s (or is is 50s? 60s?); the slightly muffled, gramaphone-like sound quality of the film, the classic fairytale romance, the female protagonist who can attract animals with song (for some funny reason). i can’t really describe it. but the closest way i can put it is the way disney movies used to have the ability to make children believe in magic – talking animals, flying carpets, exotic places, fairy godmothers etc etc, the list persists. now it’s, hmm, miley cirus and her hoe down throw down. -_-
the animated movies that i loved the most as a child were the land before time, robin hood, hercules and the fox and the hound. i remember my dad used to buy me these cd-rom games which featured the movie characters from the disney films, like this hunchback of notre dame game i remember, it was like break the bricks with the ball thing, and i used to challenge my mom to see who was better LOL. well somehow there seemed to be a never-ending supply of games (mostly educational… like that sat prep game what was modeled after doom i played when i was 6. wow, i wonder which developer thought it was a good idea to make a game for children which had like a dark maze full of skeletons jumping at you at random. it still scares me btw), maybe perhaps my dad worked in a video game developing company last time (i think).
so anyway my favourite animated movie was land before time: i watched it when i was 4 or 5 and it had a profound impact on me. it was about how this group of orphaned dinosaurs went on a journey to find their parents, and i remember pretending the spinach in my porridge was the leaf-transmitter thingy that the dinosaur used to see their parents. i remember being grateful that i wasn’t an orphan. haha. ahhh memories. it’s funny how some things from your childhood remain with you all these while, and other things you can’t remember at all. hmm.
oh well this wass such a self-indulgent post. like a spectroscopic flight of fancy. and the subject matter doesn’t really suit my image at all – maybe i should stick with listening to death metal. haha! :P

friday
so basically kwong, ham, guang, tina, celest, cheryl, pam and i went to iluma@bugis for the up-3d movie! it was my first time watching a 3d movie and i gotta say it was pretty good! there was a remarkable difference between the normal cinematic quality of the movie and the 3-literally-d effects of the special glasses! the movie was great and tear-inducing. i loved dug! the talking golden retriever :D the only down side was that i had to wear the 3d glasses in addition to my normal ones so they kept slipping cuz my nose isn’t straight enough -_- and also the fact that the tickets are double the price of normal ones!! yikes.
then later celest and cheryl left, and we had an early dinner at this one for one japanese place. walked around bugis and ham, tina and i went shopping for teachers’ day prezzies. i met lynette wong!!!! omg i haven’t seen her in a year. she said i looked angmoh-ized. haha, i guess that’s relative to my cheena appearance in nanyang.
today
haha aces day plus teachers’ day celebs. the y5’s are really champion, wrt to the morning dance! guang said they copied the ndp pole dancers’ moves, especially the one where they look like they’re summoning spirits a la woodstock hippie dancing. hahaha damn funny. pam caught shobun and evans doing a couple dance!!! the celebs were really cute too. loved the part where the senior admin went on stage to sing mamamia, accompanied by matching pictures on ppt slides. omg the one where they sung “”the money from charity cafe…” and they flashed this picture of ft holding up $50 bills…. priceless! i think i almost slid onto the floor laughing.
then later we went to dover market to eat chicken rice. haha it was brilliant cos there were no seats anywhere and all the void decks(i.e. the chairs and tables) were occupied by sleeping hobos so we couldn’t go there. thus we were forced to eat at the park. unfortunately some bengs were faster than us so the last possible stone table at the park was snapped up, so resigned, we settled down at the fitness corner (with bugs and sand and all) to eat and chitchat. but the atmosphere was quite nice la. except for the weather because it was darn hot though, not to mention humid. hmm the chicken rice was nice. i mean i don’t really have high expectations for chicken rice – as long as the rice is fragrant and the chicken is tender (meaning it doesn’t taste super dry nor have the texture of cardboard), it’s good. then bus-ed back home with ruthi, pam and guang.
then at the busstop ruthi told me this disturbing story about traveling in thailand. apparently this couple went on holiday in thailand. so one day, they went to this shopping place, and the wife took some clothes to try on in the dressing room, while the husband waited outside the room. but after a reeeeeally long time she didn’t reappear so the husband sensed something amiss, and he opened the door to the dressing room.
BUT… she was gone. the dressing room was empty!
stricken, the husband had nothing to do but to return to singapore the next day because of the plane ticket. he returned to thailand a while later, trying to locate her. he asked around all the places that they had travelled to, including the busstops and whatnot. in the end, he asked around the place where she dissappeared, and one of the people there (shopkeeper?) told him that… the dressing room actually had a trap door underneath, meaning his wife had fallen through while changing outfits the other day and that she had been kidnapped and sold to a freak show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
at this moment in the story i was damn WTF because it didn’t make sense, like why didn’t the husband just go to the singapore embassy and report it to the police then, or like why would a freakshow want to buy a normal human being to put in their acts because that just doesn’t make sense.
then ruthi said in that matter-of-fact tone of hers, “oh, that’s because they chopped off her arms and legs and put her torso into a vase for the show”
….*stunned silence*
ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. omg i am getting goosebumps just rewriting it. it feels as if this was something out of twilight zone….. that’s really sick. now i’m gonna be super paranoid when i go on vacation to thailand. :( moral of the story: don’t go into the changing rooms of shady places
anyway at macrithie i had the pleasure of waiting for 852 for 45 whole bloody minutes because the uncle of the first bus deemed me too insignificant to stop for. fucking smrt 852 buses. 6 fucking years i have been taking your fucking buses and the service is still the same-incorrigible! GRRRR
anw sorry to guang and pam who waited for me. :D shanks guys. oh yeah and we were talking about some unhappy matters wrt the ****. well, what to do. we came to the conclusion that maybe it’s for the best la. not everyone can be friends forever. not to mention friends forever with someone who can’t compromise for the sake of the others.
i reached home and i was sooooooooooooo tired. like literally to the point of collapse. but yet i still cleaned my room, dusted my bed and swept the floor and read the papers. i champion :D then i slept… for like 6 hours. then i woke up and had dinner… and then me and bj were folding paper origami. haha damn random. like during my nap i had a dream about folding origami, like i was searching the internet trying to find out how to fold pikachu origami. damn random. i think it’s cuz i keep folding paper hearts for the teachers’ day presents, so now i’m like subconsciously thinking about it too. anyway bj’s quite pro for a 14 year old guy. i mean he’s patient enough to sit there and fold paper dinosaurs with me. hehe. then my mom randomly burst in and said paper craft is like for dead people and she told us to burn some origami for gramps the next time we burn papers for him. lol but i don’t think dinosaurs are very practical in the netherworld. should burn him an ipod. then he can listen to kenny g, which was like his fave when he was alive. ahhh i wonder how he is now.
zzz k just finished my testimonial. gonna bathe now. ciao homies. haha this was SUCH a long post
end of report

my weekend was full of spending quality time with my bed, pigging out on cornetto royales, fervently praying that i’ll get a maya angelou extract for ioc (serious!), trying to figure out the gender ambiguity and undertones of the male-actor-dressed-as-a-female-dressed-as-a-man Viola-or-hould-i-say-Cesario in 12th night, enjoying a peaceful night in my hovel- i mean, room while the storm and tempest still outside, apologia pro eating seconds of stir-fried ricecake for dinner, while still having time to catch a tv movie. namely HOT FUZZ!
two words: it. was. epic! probably ranks up there in the list of most ridiculous movies that i’ve ever seen (but still love). somehow brit comedies are so much funnier than american ones. can’t remember the last time i’ve properly laughed (like clutching stomach, tears streaming down face laughed) at an american film. which reminds me, i caught a certain the animal on channel 5 on saturday. it was just… ew. surprisingly dad and bj were in fits over it, but i quickly switched the channel when they went off grocery shopping. i would use “disgusting” and “utterly revolting” to describe it but… well i don’t want to be sued, do i? :)
anw ioc in three days. i really hope i get caged bird!! i really love that book. yes so what if its black-mama-korean-drama, but at least it features female empowerment and not to mention it’s very inspirational! and colour purple too. at least they don’t portray women in a derogatory light, like miss julie (who’s a skank) or hedda gabler (she’s nuts) or medea (cold-blooded child-murderer). who else… mayber lear’s favourite daughters, regan (president with same name was assassinated) or goneril (named after an std… yikes). okay fine, those two i kid. :P
(if you’re male just skip the last bit, sorry. it’s nothing much, really)
